This guide aims to equip UK-based practitioners to better support ARE young Afghans, bringing together practical learning from both the UK and Kabul-based streams of our Youth on the Move programme.
We do not think it is in the best interests of young people to be forcibly returned, however we want to ensure that - while this policy remains in place - young people get the support and help they need to prepare for all the possible alternatives they face.
Although this guide focusses particularly on ARE youth from Afghanistan, and mainly details services available in London, the information it contains is nevertheless useful for practitioners in other parts of the UK and those supporting ARE young people from other countries of origin.
A separate, shorter document for young people - ‘Information for asylum-seeking children from Afghanistan turning 18 or becoming Appeal Rights Exhausted’ - accompanies this guide.
