"A computer can be life-changing"

17 October 2017

SocialBox.biz - a technology social enterprise - is donating laptops to RSN for young people in our mentoring programme

Mohammed* is a 18 year old young refugee from Eritrea. He has been meeting with his mentor for over a year; and he needed a laptop to do his homework. Many of his assignments are online. Mohammed said the computer will "help him a lot". He would now like to learn how to better use word processor programmes to makes changes to his CV.

Wei* will also use her new computer for her studies. She has a lot of research to do for her creative course, and YouTube videos and online image data banks will be very helpful to find inspiration for her work. She will now be able to study at home instead of staying late at college.

These computers will be a valuable asset for Mohammed's and Wei's education. They will help them to progress and learn new skills.

Peter Paduh, the founder of SocialBox.biz, came to the UK as an unaccompanied refugee child when he was 15. Having his first computer opened up a whole new world of opportunities for him. He used it for his school assignments and to draft his first business plan. He told us:
"I wanted to give something back and I know that a computer can be life-changing. Having a goal helped me to keep focused on my future."
