This week the government announced a new plan to reform the asylum system. As an organisation which proudly supports hundreds of refugees and asylum seekers, we are deeply concerned about the impact that the proposed plan would have on young people, and the system it would create for those trying to build a positive and fulfilling life here in the UK.

We will be providing feedback on the proposed plan through the government’s consultation process, which will run for the next six weeks. We are working hard to assess how the plan would impact refugee and asylum-seeking children and young people, who are rarely mentioned beyond issues related to age determination. We will be drawing on RSN’s 10 years of experience working to support refugee and asylum-seeking young people’s education and wellbeing.

We are particularly mindful of the impact of the announcement on the wellbeing of the young people we work with, and are doing everything we can to support them at this time and going forward.
