Educational Support

Refugee Support Network’s advisors offer an appointment-based service to assist with any issue that is affecting a young person’s ability to access, remain or progress in education.

We provide:

  • a drop in and appointment-based support service for young refugees and asylum seekers who are either in college or trying to access education
  • accurate advice on their rights and entitlements
  • liaison with social workers and solicitors on the young people’s behalf
  • pastoral support for young refugees and asylum seekers who are dealing with emotional and practical difficulties
  • help accessing further work, education or employment

In addition to education-specific support, Refugee Support Network runs a participatory social programme for separated children and other young refugees and asylum seekers.  This is organised by our Volunteer Coordinator and Support Worker in collaboration with a steering group of young people and provides a year-round programme of workshops, trips and other activities.

The social programme provides an opportunity for separated children to get to know each other better, make friends and experience new activities.

“I loved this trip! I never did this [ice-skating] and first I was bad but then I went fast! It’s very good!”

–17 year old boy, Afghanistan.
